SignA

SignA is a dance feast for song lovers. They bring together acoustic guitars, electro beats, acid synthesizers, and live percussions in a sound that feels familiar, yet daring and far-flung.

Founded by Massimiliano Galli and Stefano Schiavocampo in 2008 the duo was later joined for live shows by Irish musicians Rossa Cassidy and Brian O’Shea.

Lines EP is SignA's last release (2015), composed, arranged, and recorded by the band during a very busy year in which they performed at most major Irish festivals (Electric Picnic, Body&Soul, Another Love Story) and some of the best live venues of Dublin city (Grand Social, Whelans, Sugar Club).

The record shows the love of the group for songwriting and electronic music, blended in a kaleidoscope of multi-layered songs, a full sound with influences ranging from Nick Drake to Jon Hopkins.

Lines EP has been released in collaboration with Dublin’s BlockT who offered the band a studio residency and with The Fumbally which financed the physical (12” vinyls) copies and hosted in the brand new Fumbally Stables a sold-out gig with live visuals by 2014 Dublin Fringe Festival awarded visual artist Luca Truffarelli who also directed the Lines official video.

Massi and Stefano met in Milan at a Rumori Dal Fondo gig and became friends. They eventually organised a show for their two bands RDF and Ellissi Nel Cerchio a few weeks later.

When Stefano moved to Dublin the duo decided to start working on new songs every time they could meet. Those first sessions became SignA EP 2009, an EP the band used to choose which musical style to develop.

The project began to evolve after the first gig of the duo in Ireland. Massi and Stefano performed at the We Are An Exhibition party in Dublin’s neighbourhood Stoneybatter joined by Cello player Baptiste Gosselin and were invited a few days later to perform on Irish radio Today FM by Donal Dineen.

The positive feedback on SignA’s music and attitude encouraged them to concentrate on writing more songs. The band locked themselves in Stefano’s grandparents' house in Tuscany and wrote, recorded, and mixed their first album Waltzes For Lilliputians in just two weeks. The album will feature singles Bright Ideas and The Night Will Go By As We Sing with videos directed by artists Roberto Rup Paolini (Bright Ideas) and Anna Kohlweis (TNWGBAWS).

Waltzes For Lilliputians will be then released in 2013 by the Italian electronic music label MagmatiQ Records. The songs of the album were initially performed live by SignA with Italian producer Riccardo Lampugnani (AntiteQ), founder of MagmatiQ Records on Synth and Samplers.

In December 2011 the band released a single called Wish You Wish You Christmas, their version of a Christmas song, and a video directed by Marco Castrovinci. In July 2012 the duo embarked on a tour of a month around Europe hitchhiking and couch surfing from one city to another and started composing new songs. In 2013, Massi finally moved to Dublin to focus more on the project.

2014 began with the band performing at Dublin’s BlockT introducing the two new live band members Rossa Cassidy on percussion and Brian O’Shea on synth and piano. The new 4 piece band started a round of gigs all across Ireland which kept them busy all year.

On April 3rd, 2015 SignA released Lines EP with a sold-out show at Dublin’s Fumbally Stables and kept touring until the band went on an undefined hiatus in October 2015.
